Vidic Set to Quit Manchester United Next Summer?

Vidic spoke in an interview with a United fanzine in which he was asked about his long term hereafter at Old Trafford, to which he replied;

"To be honest, you never know what is going to happen. I'll be 30 by the end of my contract."

"I can't say what is going to happen in one year, two year's time."

"At the moment I'm happy and I'm here. See what the club is going to say, what it is going to be. I want to play well here and for the fans and everybody to be happy with me, to see that I give the right effort, to give my best, to give 100 per cent. What is going to happen in the future? That, no-one knows."

During the past miserable cloudy days that pass for a British summer, Vidic was connected with a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona, though at the time these rumors were largely dismissed as the fevered investment of the British press. However there are literally concerns that Vidic and his young family have failed to decree in to life in England and that it is impacting gravely on his personal life.

Nemanja's wife, Ana, is believed to have suffered the most in coming to terms with her new life in a foreign country and while these rumours surfaced while the summer, and were fervently denied by Vidic at the time, he is reported to be very reluctant to sign an extension on his £70,000 a week deal that expires in June 2012.

Sir Alex Ferguson's tendency to ensure that his top players are signed up on long term contracts at least two years before their current deal expires means that he now faces a selection with Vidic. If the Serbian continues to turn down United's new ageement offer, which are believed to be a principal revising on his current £70,000 a week deal, then it is believed that rather than risk losing the player on a nominal fee within the next year to eighteen months, that Sir Alex may well decree to sell the player this summer in order to realise his full value in the replacement market.

Mr and Mrs Vidic would not be the first habitancy to fail to come to terms with life in England. When Newcastle United signed Mirandinha from sunny Brazil in the 1980's, he lasted barely a few months before crawling back to Brazil, battered by the harsh North East elements. Juan Veron never literally settled in England with Manchester United either and the less said about Willem Prunier's time at the Old Trafford the better.

Whether Vidic does go will rely on Sir Alex Ferguson's powers of persuasion and either his family can adjust to life in England. If Vidic is adamant that he has to move on to stop his wife becoming so depressed she does something crazy, like start supporting Liverpool, then it seems his destination will be a top club in Italy and Spain. Should that eventuality happen, Vidic would no doubt have plenty of ability teams to pick from.
